descending was written for Vertixe Sonora.

descending was written to suggest individualism cannot exist outside of the shared consequences that all of humanity must face as a result of global impacts like climate change, war, and technological innovation.

Each performer progresses through six distinct musical gestures for a set interval of time. Despite each performer being in their own world, their gestures share textural similarities. As the piece progresses, the timbre of each instrument becomes more distorted, and the pitch material shifts down to the instruments’ lower registers. Every performer’s change is similar, and consequently collective.
